Mike Brown & Ondelee Perteet

The shooting of Mike Brown has affected everyone across the country. It is a mess in Ferguson. You must understand the people’s frustration. A victim is still a victim, be it at the hands of a police officer or a regular civilian. Justice needs to be served!! I’m thinking about how bad it is in Chicago. My son, Ondelee Pertee, became a victim of gun violence at the hands of a 15-year old you, a shooting that left my son quadriplegic. Understand, he is a unique individual as he now drives a regular vehicle with no assisted devices. My son has dreads and drives a van. One day, while driving with his friends, who also wear dreads, he felt he had been racially profiled by Chicago police when he was stopped.   One car came from behind while another from in front cut him off. Luckily, he’s a great driver. They then jumped out with their guns drawn, shouting, “Hands in the air!!” Remember now, Ondelee is quadriplegic and can only raise his left hand. His right hand can’t lift past the steering wheel. A female officer was screaming at him saying, “Hands in the air!” His friend then yelled, “Don’t shoot! Don’t shoot, he’s paralyzed!” I know the police officers have a job to do and they’re scared too, but what does that mean for my son? Had his friend not been with him, his face could have been blown off! Now, I’m double worried about the youth on the street that carry guns and the officers who are to protect us carrying guns. My heart goes out to Mike Brown’s family and I hope justice is served!   Anyone care to comment?
